Reds made late play for midfielderEnded up heading to Stamford BridgeStill searching for a spark with BluesWHAT HAPPENED?
The Ecuador international found himself at the centre of a Premier League tug-of-war over the summer as Brighton sought to retain his services, while heavyweight outfits from Anfield and Stamford Bridge scrapped it out for his signature.

Chelsea ultimately prevailed in that tussle, with a £115 million ($140m) deal taking Caicedo to west London. Liverpool did all they could to tempt the 21-year-old midfielder to Merseyside, with Manuel Sierra telling : “When Liverpool came and approached in that way, obviously Moises gets dizzy, I get dizzy myself. But Chelsea were by our side at all times asking us to go, they wanted an hour so that we could tell Brighton, so that they could match the offer and they gave them an hour and it ended in two days of negotiation.”
WHAT THEY SAID
Sierra went on to admit that Liverpool would have been the more stable option, but Caicedo has always wanted to play for Chelsea. He added: “It is very complicated, imagine that Jurgen Klopp is writing to you, that Liverpool is calling you. We are talking about something very big, that is, one of the best teams in the world, just like Chelsea, and with a more established and more stabilised project than what Chelsea have today, which is a very ambitious project with a view to two, three years ahead. The issue of not going to Liverpool instead of Chelsea was also very questioned, the offers were similar in every way. He ended up at Chelsea because he had given the word to Chelsea and he told them for quite some time.”

Caicedo has endured a slow start to life under Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge in 2023-24, but he is far from being the only one and Chelsea are still waiting to see a healthy return on the investment that has seen them splash out over £1 billion ($1.2bn) across the last three transfer windows.
