Arsenal and their newly-appointed sporting director Edu have watched Toulouse attacker Fares Chaibi ahead of a potential move in the January transfer window.
The Lowdown: Emerging talent
The 19-year-old is an emerging talent in French football, having won the Young Player of the Month award for October in Ligue 1.
Last month, the attacker scored one goal and supplied three assists as he helped Toulouse to win two and draw two of their five league games (Transfermarkt).
The Latest: Arsenal watch Chaibi
As per French news outlet Foot Mercato, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal watched Chaibi in action for Toulouse in October in a 2-2 draw at home to Strasbourg.
He made two key passes, the joint-second most out of his team-mates, in a rather unfamiliar centre-forward position.
The north London outfit ‘particularly appreciate’ Chaibi, but they will face competition from La Liga side Sevilla for his signature.
The Verdict: Trust Edu
Having recently been given a promotion, Arsenal clearly trust Edu and his role in the recruitment of players.
He has helped to bring the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus to the Emirates Stadium through his Brazilian connections, with the former having a similar profile to Chaibi in terms of playing style.
Chaibi has the ability to play anywhere across the front line, showing great versatility and maturity beyond his years, so this could be another great investment by the Gunners should they be able to pull off a deal.
